I have recently been testing the free DNS servers at OpenDNS after they claim to provide a faster & safer browsing experience.
How is it faster and safer ?
It claims to be faster because you use DNS every time you use the Internet. The speed of your DNS service determines how quickly websites load for you. That's why you want your DNS service to be blazing. OpenDNS is so fast because we run some of the largest DNS caches around and do it on our own high-performance network.
And claims to be safer as it protects you from phishing — bad websites trying to steal your personal information. When you try to go to a phishing site, we let you know
So far I am very impressed and have noticed an increase in speed.
So I thought now might be the time to write a guide to using these free servers in Windows.

1. Click on the start button and select Run
2. Clear previous run command and type the following In the run box ncpa.cpl and click O.K. (the following screen should appear)
3. Right click the icon labeled Local Area Connection and select properties (the following screen should appear)
4. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select properties
5. MAKE A NOTE OF THE SETTINGS ON THIS PAGE BEFORE CONTINUING
6. If not already done place the dot in the circle labeled use the following DNS server
addresses and fill in the numbers as show below.
The Numbers are:
Preferred DNS server address for Open DNS is:
208.67.222.222
Alternate DNS server address for Open DNS is:
208.67.220.220
208.67.222.222
Alternate DNS server address for Open DNS is:
208.67.220.220
7. Once set click o.k. on all screen and reboot your machine.
8. You can test you settings are correct by going to the following website
And test the Anti Phishing service here
9. I hope you find an increase in performance as I have but if you don't simply reverse your settings back to what they where.
